Sarah Peltzman Education Series 2025-2026

The SARAH PELTZMAN EDUCATIONAL SERIES is sponsored by the Congregation Beth Shalom Sisterhood. There will be five sessions, beginning Thursday morning, August 28 through May 14, 2026. All units will be presented live and in-person in Goldsmith Hall from 10-11:30 am.

The cost is $25.00 for each unit, and discounted fee of $70 if you enroll in all five units. The fee for couples is $35 per unit, and $100 total for a couple enrolling in all five units.

All units are open to the entire Jewish community of Greater Kansas City.

Unit 1 – Topic “Afterlife: how we celebrate those we have lost”

Dates: Aug 28, Sept 4, 11, 18, 25, 2025. 10:00-11:30. (Goldsmith Hall)

Unit 2 – Topic “History and Crisis in the Middle East”

Dates: Oct 23 and Nov 13, 2025. 10:00-11:30 (Goldsmith Hall)

*this series alone will be $10 to attend

Guest speakers Dr. Ben Schneider and Dr. Brian Steed join us from the Department of Military History at U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

From the bar kochva revolts until 1938, our first session will focus on the history and development of the state of Israel prior to it’s international recognition. The next session will look at Israel after recognition, their struggle for international recognition and defense of their borders, and the current narrative war that has Israel at a disadvantage.

Unit 3 – Topic ”Importance of Israel in the Bible”

Dates: Jan 22, 29, Feb 5, 12, 19, 2026. 10:00-11:30 (Goldsmith Hall)

Beginning with a history of Israel, we will explore the historical importance of Eretz Yisra’el from Biblical times until the creation of the State in 1948.

Unit 4 – Topic ”Histories of the Rabbis”

Dates: April 23, 30, May 7, 14, 21, 2026. 10:00-11:30 (Goldsmith Hall)

We have discussed what the Rabbis say about the Torah, but who were the Rabbis, their backgrounds, their families? This session will explore our greatest commentators and why they are still relevant today
