Looking for a way to express your Judaism outside of prayer services or classes? Concerned about issues like mental health, homelessness, public transportation, or healthcare on a local level? Curious what Rabbi Kaplan means when she talks about “community organizing”? Hoping to respond to the polarization and antisemitism in society by strengthening relationships with churches and mosques?
The Good Faith Network is an interfaith organization building people power in nearly 30 congregations across Johnson County (including Beth Shalom).
We use our relationships and collective voice to advocate for changes that address the root cause of our community’s most pressing problems. How do we know what problems are most pressing in our community? It starts with the Listening Process. Every fall, our leaders across every member congregation host a series of small group listening sessions to talk about issues in our community. This year, the Beth Shalom Listening Session will be on Tuesday, September 24 at 7:00 pm at Beth Shalom. We will begin with some shmoozing over homemade dessert baked by Rabbi Kaplan and transition into a small group conversation guided by Carla Oppenheimer and Rabbi Kaplan. We will wrap up by discussing next steps and other ways to get involved. For a full explanation of the Good Faith
Network process, contact Carla. If you have questions or would like to learn more before the listening session, we will be available on Sunday, September 15 from 11:15-12:00 pm at Beth Shalom. Hebrew school parents are welcome to stop by before pick up, and you can even bring older kids along with you on September 24!
