Beth Shalom is “family-friendly” in the best sense. We are a welcoming, intergenerational community of people from different personal and Jewish backgrounds. We have different points of Jewish contact—ritual, educational, social—but a shared commitment to the values that define us: tradition, egalitarianism, learning, reason, and family, whether that’s the one we are born into or the ones we have built along the way.
Beth Shalom people are here because we understand the benefits of a community with inspiring leadership. We learn from our clergy and each other, and all rely on one another for support. Beth Shalom enables us to make a significant commitment to a Judaism that fits well into our modern lives.
An egalitarian Conservative synagogue, we support a Daily Minyan with morning and evening services every day. We have vibrant Shabbat services with two simultaneous services on Shabbat morning, a main service in the sanctuary and a library minyan. Additionally, we frequently provide Tefillateinu, an instrumental family Shabbat morning service, Shir L’Shabbat, instrumental music service that takes place in a more central location in the Kansas city metro area, plus Shabbat Kids Club and Tot Shabbat. Many members participate in our services, from our Torah Readers to our Service Leaders . We also have the best Simchat Torah and Purim parties in the city, along with all of our other Holiday celebrations.
The Rose Family Early Childhood Education Centersupports children from 18 months to pre-K ages, and is the best-regarded nursery school in the area. Our Polsky Religious School passes on our religious values to our children from kindergarten to our 10th-grade Confirmation class.
We have a vibrant United Synagogue Youth chapter for our teenagers. The synagogue also supports Scout Troop 61, which has been around since 1925 and produced more than 330 Eagle Scouts.
A community of adult learners attends a monthly Talmud Jam class lead by our Rabbi. Sisterhood, our oldest synagogue-supported organization, sponsors many activities, including the acclaimed Melton Adult Learning classes, the Sarah Peltzman class, our Lechem group, which serves a food kitchen every month, and our Chesed committee that comforts the ill. Our recently re-launched Men’s Club is expanding its reach.
Through these opportunities and more, our congregants are engaging, learning and celebrating. Come Experience Jewish Living at Congregation Beth Shalom.
