Unit 1 – Rabbi Beryl Padorr

Ocober 27, November 3, 10, 17 & December 1, 2022 (Goldsmith Hall) There is a break for Thanksgiving

Topic—“Our Jewish Texts and the Soul.”  Rabbi Padorr will be using excerpts from the book, Does the Soul Survive? by Rabbi Elie Spitz, and looking at them through the lens of the Torah and other Jewish texts as a basis for our study. She will be covering such topics as “how does the Misheberach prayer help those who are ill?” and a look at the Afterlife.  For those who took her course previously, this is an updated and expanded version with new materials.

Unit 2 – Hazzan Tahl Ben-Yehuda

February 2, 9, 16 & 23, March 2, 2023 (Goldsmith Hall)

Topic—“Midrash:  The What and Why Behind the Stories You Think You Know.”  This unit will be a continuation of Hazzan’s 21-22 class but will focus on Midrash from the book of Exodus with all new materials.

Unit 3 – Hazzan Tahl Ben-Yehuda

April 20, 27 and May 4, 11 & 18 (Goldsmith Hall)

Topic–“A Gathering of Angels.”  This is a course based on the book by our own late Rabbi Morris B. Margolies, z’’l.  The book pores through nearly three thousand years of literature and lore in this exploration of the angels who shape and reflect Jewish beliefs, hopes, and fears. NOTE:  This class will immediately follow the holiday of Passover where we encountered the Angel of Death.
